Hair salons are ideally positioned to offer Head SPA: clients already come in regularly, trust their hairdresser, and have a hair care routine. Head SPA is a natural extension of that relationship - from “I’ll take care of my hair” to “I’ll take care of my scalp and unwind.” Below is an 8-step plan that has worked in our salon and in salons we’ve helped introduce the service.
Step 1. Decide what Head SPA will be in your salon
There are two models, and the rest depends on your choice:
- Add-on to hairdressing services - a shorter treatment (30-40 minutes) offered, for example, alongside coloring or hair care. Lower price, high treatment volume.
- Standalone premium service - a full, hour-long relaxation ritual, sold as a separate appointment or a gift. Higher price, requires a separate room.
Many salons start with the first model and add the second after a few months.
Step 2. Choose your setup
Hair salons have three options here:
- Hair-washing unit with Head SPA function - replaces one of your existing wash units. It serves as a regular wash unit, and for treatments the chair reclines almost fully, with a water massage and steam sauna at your disposal. It doesn’t take up any extra space. See the Head SPA HP5B hair-washing unit.
- Freestanding wash unit - it has water tanks, so it doesn’t need to be connected to plumbing. A good choice if you want to create a Head SPA corner without plumbing work. See Head SPA wash units.
- Head SPA bed - if you have a separate room and access to water and drainage. Best for a premium service. See Head SPA beds.
You’ll find a detailed comparison in our guide Head SPA wash unit or bed - which should you choose.
Step 3. Prepare the space
Head SPA is a relaxing treatment - hair dryers, conversations, and music from the main salon can easily ruin it. If you can, set aside a separate room, or at least a screen and a corner away from the hairdressing stations. Dim lighting, calming music, a warm towel, and the scent of oils make a huge difference to the experience - and to the price the client is willing to pay.
Step 4. Learn the technique
A hairdresser knows how to wash hair, but Head SPA is more than that: neck and shoulder massage, facial massage, scalp stimulation, scrubs, masks, a steam sauna, and aromatherapy, all in the right sequence and at the right pace. Without training, the treatment will look like “a longer wash”. You can find a comparison of training formats in the article Head SPA training - in-person or online.
Step 5. Gather your cosmetics
You'll need shampoos, scalp scrubs, masks, massage and aromatherapy oils, and towels. W per-treatment terms, this comes to around PLN 20-30. It's worth having 2-3 care options (e.g., for oily or dry scalps and for color-treated hair) - this lets you tailor the treatment to each client.
Step 6. Set your prices
The prices we see on the market can serve as a starting point:
- 30-40-minute treatment: around PLN 250,
- full 60-minute ritual: PLN 300-400.
It's also worth preparing packages (e.g., 4 treatments at a lower price) and gift vouchers. We calculated how much you can earn from this in our article how much it costs to introduce Head SPA to a salon.
Step 7. Sell the service to your existing clients
The most affordable way to market Head SPA in a hair salon is through your existing clients:
- Show before you suggest - give a short scalp massage while washing the hair before coloring, then say: “that was just a taste; the full treatment takes an hour”.
- Add Head SPA to your booking system with a good description and a photo of the station - many people are now searching for this service in booking apps.
- Record a short video of the treatment - steam, lighting, and the water massage look great on Instagram and TikTok.
- Gift vouchers - Head SPA makes a great gift, especially before the holidays and International Women's Day.
Step 8. Measure the results
After the first month, check three figures: how many treatments were performed, how many clients returned for another, and where the new ones came from. This will tell you whether to develop the service as an add-on to hairdressing or as a separate premium ritual.
Summary
A hair salon can introduce Head SPA faster and more affordably than any other beauty business - it already has clients, their trust, and often shampoo stations. All you need is a well-chosen station, solid training, and a plan for introducing the service to your existing clients.
